A Day at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois

At OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, we care for children with a variety of diseases, illnesses or accidents.  One day the president of our hospital visited our care centers and below are the children that he met.

1. From Pekin, IL – a baby in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit weighing just 2.4 pounds.
2. From Peoria, IL – a 17 year old in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit recovering from the effect of Chemo to treat leukemia.
3. From Bloomington, IL – a child needed surgery to have tubes in his ears.  We have pediatric anesthesiologists, which is extremely important.
4. From Quincy, IL – a baby is born HIV Positive. The doctor that delivered him called an OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital Infection Disease doctor to ask questions.
5. From Decatur, IL– a baby born needing heart surgery immediately was transported to OSF  Children’s Hospital Heart Institute.
6. From Moline, IL – A 10 year-old was hospitalized with diabetes. The #1 disease for kids is Obesity which is increasing childhood diabetes.
7. From Canton, IL – a child born with his organs on the outside of his body. Surgeons operated to put everything back where it belonged.
8. From Princeton, IL – a ventilator dependent child. OSF Children’s Hospital’s program helps ventilator dependent children go home. Before this program, children would spend months, even years in the Hospital.
9. From Galesburg, IL – a 9-year old riding his bike to school, turned in front of a car and was hit. Life Flight Helicopter was called and he was immediately brought to OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
10. From Galesburg, IL – a 12 year old Hispanic child with no records, no permanent address and no insurance was admitted with Leukemia. She was treated and released with prayers that she will live a full and productive life.

We strive to make our community a better place for our children to live happy, healthy lives. Thanks to your thoughtfulness and generosity, OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria will be here for families who need us.
